Kirkley, Ken D.

Ken D. Kirkley, a former Alabama Baptist music minister, died March 1. He was 66.

A native of Jasper, Kirkley held degrees from Samford University in Birmingham and the University of Alabama and attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

His years of music ministry began at the age of 16 and included stops at Southside Baptist Church, Decatur; First Baptist Church, Haleyville; Northside Baptist Church, Jasper; Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Hueytown; Ensley Baptist Church; and First Baptist Church, New Albany, Miss.

While a minister of music, he directed both youth and adult choirs and organized concert tours and missions trips.

Kirkley was also a member of the Alabama Singing Men, The CenturyMen and the Samford A Cappella Alumni Choir.

He also served his community, teaching choral music to students in the Walker County Public School System and later serving as a principal in the school system.

Kirkley is survived by his wife, Patty; two children and two granddaughters. (TAB)
