Kevin Ward says one thing he didn’t expect from 2020 was to end up with a nickname like Tater King.
But back in the spring, he got a call from a friend at a local BBQ chain who said they had lots of potatoes they couldn’t use. Before COVID-19, they would choose the sizes they needed for their baked potatoes, then send the rest back.
So Ward, director of missions for Limestone Baptist Association, started thinking, and since May he has distributed 70,000 pounds of potatoes to ministry centers and churches all over the area.
He’s also given them out to neighbors and in local parking lots and ball fields.
“We’ve been able to make some connections and get to know people we haven’t known before,” he said.
