William E. “Bill” Broome Jr., a retired preacher, died March 6. He was 89.
A Georgia native, Broome was called to preach at age 15, graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham and attended New Orleans Seminary. He began his ministry preaching youth revivals. He served as pastor and preached at churches throughout Alabama over the years. He also was a counselor at several of Billy Graham’s crusades and revivals.
Most recently, Broome was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years Sarah V. Hamm Broome; two daughters, Jenise Spurlock and Jennifer Browning; and two grandchildren.
