Lured to a place under the ruse that his young daughter was critically ill, a man in Uganda was attacked and beaten unconscious for becoming a Christian.
Ochora Awali, 28, woke up in a clinic in Mbale after suffering the beating May 2 in Nakaloke Town, sources told Morning Star News. Muslim in-laws are the alleged assailants.

Awali said he put faith in Jesus Christ on Dec. 31, 2025, after which his wife left with their child to live with her parents in Nakaloke.
On May 2, Awali received a call from his brother-in-law, claiming Awali’s daughter was critically ill.
Accompanied by his pastor, Awali went to his in-laws’ home in Nakaloke.
Awali said he was accosted upon entering the home and beaten unconscious.
The pastor, who stayed outside while Awali went inside to see the child, fled to get help.
Serious injuries
As of May 13, Awali was still being treated in a hospital for serious head injuries, a source told Morning Star.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. Uganda’s constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another. However, Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, the World Atlas reported.
