Q: How did you become a Christian?
A: I was raised in a Christian home and have known the Lord since the day I was born. I had a very nurturing Christian family. I made my public profession of faith when I was 12.

Q: When and how were you led into the ministry?
A: When I was about 8, I realized I had a strong desire (to minister). I got all the kids (from the area) together for services held under trees. I made it public at a Baptist Student Union convention in 1948 in Gastonia, N.C. I became a pastor by my second year in college; I was maybe 18.

Q: What do you get from the ministry?
A: Knowledge that Christians must be involved in ministry because so many people have spiritual and physical needs.

Q: What difference has being in ministry made in your life?
A: The more I’m involved, the more I realize how many people need help.

Q: What has been your favorite ministry opportunity?
A: For about 40 years, I had a ministry to Indian reservations. Up until recently, a lot of them were in poverty. I would collect money, food and clothes for people of the reservations.
