Mayor on a Mission

Mayor on a Mission

Lambert Mims. Tamarac, Fla.: Llumina Press, 2005. 272 pp. (Paperback).

This book, an autobiography of Mobile’s former mayor, is “a story of surrender, service and survival.”

Here we observe Lambert Mims as a plowboy, peddler, politician and prisoner. He gives God the glory for his experience and attributes his survival to God’s grace. In 1970, he served as president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention.

Readers will be particularly interested in his account of being accused of a crime and spending years in prison. He closes the book with this moving sentence: “God will never leave nor forsake you.” This is a book for all of us but particularly for those with serious challenges and notable opportunities. The author handled both quite well.
