Mikeschair has released its second full-length record, “A Beautiful Life,” a collection of radio-friendly music that springboards from its four Dove Award nominations. This record may not move the art of Christian music forward very far, but it’s good music, fun to listen to and it’s hard to argue with their popularity.

The record’s first single, “Someone Worth Dying For,” explores our self-image, our struggle to understand God’s love for us despite our shortcomings. A powerfully moving ballad, it perhaps sets the tone for the record and is easily one of the best on the CD. For me, “Pieces” showcases the band’s ability to create Christian rock that can move us lyrically and musically.

We’ll certainly hear more from Mikeschair, and I look forward to the future growth and musical maturity that is promised in this album.
