Larry D. Morris, pastor of Alpine Baptist Church in Coosa River Baptist Association for more than 40 years, died Jan. 6. He was 66.
A graduate of William Carey College (now William Carey University) in Hattiesburg, Miss., and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Morris also holds degrees from the University of Montevallo and the Birmingham School of Law. He was a practicing attorney and served as executive director of the Cheaha Mental Health Center for more than 30 years.
In the community, he served on the Talladega County board of education for 30 years and was the chairman of the county Democratic Party for several years.
“He was well loved in the community as a whole and was a very helpful person,” said Randy Hagan, director of missions for Coosa River Association. “He was a very loving person, and their ministry at Alpine Baptist was a good social ministry. He ministered to people in the community and cared about the social needs of people around him.”
