Grace Philpot Nelson died July 29, 2011, at the age of 92.
Nelson was the wife of Dotson M. Nelson Jr., longtime pastor of Mountain Brook Baptist Church, in Birmingham Baptist Association.
Nelson was a native of Houston, Miss., and a graduate of Blue Mountain College.
At age 62, she returned to school and received her master's in religion from Samford University in Birmingham. She was ordained by Mountain Brook Baptist Church and served as a chaplain for several Birmingham-area hospitals.
She was a member of Anniston's First Baptist Church at McClellan where her son, Buddy, serves as pastor.
Nelson was preceded in death by her husband and two daughters: Carol Lois Stevens and Mary Grace Nelson.
She is survived by sons Dotson M. Nelson III and William P. (Buddy) Nelson, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. (TAB)
