James Nelson, former director of missions (DOM) for Marshall Baptist Association, died July 4. He was 88.
Nelson was a World War II veteran and served as a pastor/church starter during college and seminary.
He was a church planter and pastor in Alabama and a missionary in Montana, New Mexico and the Panama Canal Zone. He also served on staff of the Baptist Convention of New Mexico and the Southern Baptist Convention Home Mission Board (now the North American Mission Board).
Nelson served as DOM for Marshall Association from 1983 to 1985.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Annis; and six children and their families.
