ABUJA, Nigeria — A pastor was among 135 Christians killed within nine days in two Nigerian states.
Morning Star News said Yakubu Shuaibu, pastor of Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, was slain April 4 in his home in Madlau in Borno State. Terrorists from Islamic State’s West Africa Province are suspected in the attack, in which the pastor’s pregnant wife was shot.
As of the news service’s April 25 report, the pastor’s wife was at Biu General Hospital.
Shuaibu is the third of the denomination’s pastors slain in a short amount of time, said a denominational leader.
Between April 2 and April 10 in Benue state, Muslim Fulani herdsmen attacked a number of villages, killing 134 Christians, says a press release from the state’s governor, Samuel Ortom.
Nigeria is No. 6 on Open Doors’ 2023 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian. Nigeria led the world in 2022 in the number of Christians kidnapped or killed for their faith.
