No one was injured when a single shot was fired at Dawson Family Recreation Center this morning (Nov. 9).
A Facebook post from Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood noted, “There was an altercation during a basketball game at the Dawson Family Recreation Center at 9:30 a.m. this morning. A single shot was fired and no one was injured. Police were on the scene quickly. Everyone is safe. Homewood police have identified a suspect and will pursue charges. All activities are resumed at Dawson. We are grateful for the Homewood Police Department and their quick, professional response.”
Homewood Police Department Sgt. John Carr said the subject was out of the area and no threat to the public.
UPDATE: A Birmingham man was charged Nov. 11 in this incident. AL.com reported that Homewood police on Saturday obtained an attempted murder warrant against Kerry Jermaine Austin-Thornton, 21. He was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail, and his bond was set at $60,000.
