The Other Side
Curb Records
“The Other Side” already has garnered a Gospel Music Association New Artist of the Year Dove Award nomination for Nashville-based trio No Other Name, as well as prompting the adoption of the song “Let It Start With Me” by the Southern Baptist Convention as its missions theme song. Not a bad start, and this is BEFORE its first record’s release, which will be Oct. 25.
Why all this recognition? There are a lot of reasons, but leading the way has to be the group’s clean harmonies. Imagine old-time southern gospel harmonies over thoroughly modern music and you start to get a clue. Plus, these guys can sing! Pristine production from Bernie Herms with help from Jason Kyle and Blake Bollinger is another. Oh, and excellent songwriting — sometimes edgy, sometimes traditional, often with a nod to beloved old hymns, always with a strong faith-based message. I could go on, but you get the idea. There’s something here for everybody. If you buy only one CD this year, consider this one.
