The North American Mission Board (NAMB) has appointed three missionaries with ties to Alabama.
Marion "Trey" Cates III and Robyn Cates are serving in Barre, Vt., where Trey has been named as a church-planting missionary pastor for Green Mountain Baptist Association, the Baptist Convention of New England and NAMB. He will serve as associate pastor of Faith Community Church, a 2-year-old church plant.
A native of Trussville, Trey Cates earned a bachelor of science degree in communications from the University of Mobile (UM) and a master of divinity degree in religion from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. Robyn Cates earned a bachelor of science degree in education from UM. The Cates have a 4-year-old daughter, Rachel, and 10-month-old son, Joshua.
They are members of NorthPark Baptist Church, Trussville.
Michelle Bruss is serving as a Baptist center missionary in New Orleans, where she will work at the Baptist Friendship House — a transitional housing program for homeless women with children. Bruss, who considers Summit, Miss., her hometown, is completing work on her master’s in social work at the University of Alabama (UA). She will graduate in May 2007. She also earned her bachelor’s in social work from UA.
She has served as a summer missionary in Arizona and Louisiana and has interned with Woman’s Missionary Union. As a member of First Baptist Church, Hoover, she worked with youth at that church prior to her relocation to New Orleans. (NAMB)
