I enjoy reading The Alabama Baptist very much. However, I was a little shocked when I got the Aug. 23 issue and saw that picture on the front page as the headline story. Is your editor not aware of the power of suggestion used extensively by “the other side?”
Beer and other manufacturers pay very big money to get their products displayed where they can be seen at ball games, in various movies and any type of media they can get them displayed. Then for me to pull my copy of The Alabama Baptist out of my mailbox and be accosted by a picture of an innocent little child looking at Coors Light and other beers, which are not readily readable, was a little disturbing. I can just imagine that Coors brewery just loves their “free” advertising on the front page of a very popular Christian publication. Surely I am not the only reader that understands this “power-of-suggestion”-type advertising.
Please make sure the writer understands that I say this in Christian love and just to point out what I believe is a mistake, which I believe is worthy of an apology to your readers. We all make errors in judgment, but the great thing is that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, forgives those mistakes and restores us to His bosom. The story is an excellent story and needs to be read and needed to be written. It even deserves front-page billing in your great publication. However, I just believe this was an error in judgment to have a picture like this on the front page of such a wonderful publication.
Thank you for listening to me. Keep up the good work.

EDITOR’S NOTE — We agree the photo was a mistake. The intent was to illustrate the story, but we regret the type of photo chosen and used. We sincerely apologize for the error in judgment.
