A Wetumpka pastor was recently arrested and charged with sexually abusing two girls and producing obscene videos of them.
Garett Albert Dykes, 38, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Wetumpka, was arrested Jan. 9 before the evening service, according to The Birmingham News. He was charged with three counts of sexual abuse, three counts of production of obscene matter of someone under 17 and one count of sodomy.
According to The Wetumpka Herald, both of the victims are under 10 years old. Authorities say the alleged abuse happened at Dykes’ home where the reported victims were spending the night.
Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said the suspect admitted to the abuse.
Dykes, a married father of three children all under age 10, had served as pastor of the more than 200-member church for about three years. He was released on $10,000 bond Jan. 9 night but was arrested again the next morning after the second victim came forward.
“Calvary Baptist Church regrets that this incident involving our former pastor has taken place,” said church administrator John Pritchett. “Our hearts go out to the victims and to their families. Our hearts are broken also for the Dykes family.”
District Attorney Randall Houston of the 19th Judicial District said Dykes’ initial court appearance was Jan. 11 when the $1.5 million bond was confirmed.
Dykes will appear before a Grand Jury in April.
