Robert Paul is someone you should know because he serves on The Alabama Baptist board of directors. In addition, he has been pastor of First Baptist Church, Talladega, for the past three years.

Q: Why have you served as a board member?

A: I am in the first year on The Alabama Baptist board. I am serving because I want to give something back to Alabama Baptists.

Q: What does this demand?

A:  It may be too early for me to answer that question completely. I think it is going to demand staying abreast of what is taking place in Baptist life, maintaining healthy relationships with Baptists across the state and doing whatever I can to help the paper continue its successful legacy.

Q: What do you get from the ministry?

A:  The satisfaction of knowing that I am making a contribution to Kingdom causes.

Q: What led you to join the board?

A:  The simple answer is that Dr. Bob Terry asked if he could recommend me to the Committee on Boards and Commissions. I agreed because I know what a vital role the state paper plays in Baptist polity. A friend of mine says, “When Baptists know, Baptists will do.” The Alabama Baptist helps our people to know so that they can do.

Q: How do your family members support you?

A:  Melanie, Emily and Robert are terrific. They are all very busy. Melanie teaches math at Drew Middle School in Lincoln. Emily is a senior at Talladega High School and Robert is a ninth-grader at Talladega High School. Both kids are heavily involved in extracurricular activities. We support each other with love and understanding and a commitment to be involved in each other’s lives. I adore my family.
