Adolph Phares has been in the ministry for 52 years and has served as pastor of seven churches in Alabama, Florida and Indiana. Since retiring in 1995, Phares has served as interim pastor in 14 churches in Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Currently he is interim pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Gordon, in Columbia Baptist Association.
Q: What led you to become
a pastor?
A: As a young Christian and in the military, I was praying and seeking the Lord’s will for my life. After studying the Word and receiving counsel from Christian friends, I felt that preaching and pastoral ministry was what God wanted me to do.
Q: Why have you continued
even past retirement?
A: The Lord has opened doors for me to continue preaching and ministering to people.
Q: What does the ministry
demand?
A: This ministry demands me to continue to pray, to study and to share His Word.
Q: What do you get from
the ministry?
A: The joy of preaching God’s Word and encouraging other people.
Q: How do family members
support you?
A: My wife supports me in prayer and with her presence. My children support me in prayer and encouragement.
Q: What difference will working
in the ministry make for
you in the future?
A: The satisfaction of being faithful to the Lord and serving people.
