Phenix City pastor celebrates 20 years

Eugene Langner recently celebrated his 20th anniversary with First Baptist Church, Phenix City.

Langner is a graduate of the University of Alabama; Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.; and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

The church celebrated Langner’s anniversary by presenting him and his wife, Jane, with a seven-day cruise to Alaska. The presentation was made during the Aug. 24 morning worship service. That evening, the celebration continued with “An Evening to Remember,” which included special music, words of appreciation and presentation of a quilt designed with the palm prints of the church’s children.

In his 20 years of service at First, Phenix City, Langner has had the opportunity to conduct 114 wedding and 218 funerals and baptize 227 people. Since 1983, the church has ordained 20 new deacons, one of whom is his son-in-law.

When Langner began the first sermon of his 21st year at First, Phenix City, he taught from Philippians 3:13-14, “Straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
