Coming to Christ, Jimmie Pike served churches through 45 years of Sunday School teaching, Woman’s Missionary Union and committee work. She also served as church clerk. Pike’s family moved around while her husband was in the Navy but settled at Hodgesville Baptist Church, Dothan, in 1975.
Q: How did you come to know the Lord?
A: Through my daughter when she was 7. She was going to Sunday School with some neighbors, and as children do, they want you to do what they are doing, so we started going to church with her. My husband and I were both saved March 1954. God spoke to us at the same time.
Q: How were you involved in church through the years?
A: My husband was in the Navy for 20 years, and we went to church wherever we were stationed. I started out teaching Sunday School to beginners, and that’s just a good way to start out because they really keep you on your toes. I’ve taught beginners through adults over the years, and I’ve worked with Woman’s Missionary Union. Missions and prayer are my favorite things. I’ve been involved in a mission in Maryland and mission Bible schools in California. I’ve also been the clerk here at my church and just gave that up.
Q: What did you get from those ministries?
A: I just felt that that’s what the Lord wanted me to do, and I was fulfilling what He wanted me to do. It just blessed my heart to see other people come to know the Lord.
Q: What were some of the demands of the ministry?
A: Time. It takes a lot of time when you’re doing different things in the church.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in church in the future?
A: I’d like for it to be a lot more than I can really see. My health is not all that good anymore. I just love going to church and being a part of the fellowship in the church.
Q: What difference has being a Christian made for you?
A: It’s just great. I can see where my life would’ve been without it. I would’ve been going down the wrong road had I not accepted the Lord. Knowing that I have the Lord and the security He provides me, that’s all the difference in the world.
