Poll: White evangelicals still support Trump

A new opinion poll says 63% of white evangelicals do not believe President Donald Trump has “damaged the dignity” of the presidency and 67% say the country is headed in the right direction.

The survey by the Public Religion Research Institute found a slight majority of white evangelicals (52%) wish Trump would act more presidential. In the broader faith community 73% of religious Americans overall, including 81% of black Protestants and 72% of white mainline Protestants, say they wish “Trump’s speech and behavior were more consistent with past presidents.”

A majority of Americans (72%) and white evangelicals (79%) say they are “absolutely certain” they will vote in the 2020 presidential election. (RNS)
