Possible impeachment threatens Nigeria

KADUNA, Nigeria — Christians in Nigeria are warning that a plan to impeach Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo could throw the country into turmoil. On Sept. 25, officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) called on legislators to stop their efforts to impeach Obasanjo, who has admitted to being a Christian in a nation torn between Islam and Christianity.

Obasanjo has has refused to resign the presidency. Impeachment requires a two-thirds majority in both houses of the Nigeria assembly.
