Public education

Public education

I don’t fear the “harm” to public education you tout in your editorial of April 21.

I view public education as a failing, leftist-thinking and -teaching, extremely expensive to taxpayers, union-protected job creator whose first objective is employees’ benefits, not the education of the children who attend or in any way the conservation of hard-working taxpayers’ money. You rail against taxpayer money being used to fund, in any way, private or parochial schools. Surely you know many students are going to these schools with Pell Grants, veteran’s benefits, student loans and many other forms of educational assistance, all provided by the federal government and being spent at these private and parochial schools. “Me thinks you protest too
much.” I was once a public schoolteacher and later an elected public official, and my wife spent 45 years as a public school employee, much of it in the central office and at the university level, so I have plenty of information from within the system to make a judgment.
