Rain doesn’t impede See You At The Pole event

Rain across parts of the state Sept. 26 didn’t prevent this year’s See You At The Pole (SYATP) event from drawing an even bigger crowd than recent years, said Greg Davis, executive director of First Priority of Alabama.

Tens of thousands of students gathered around their flagpoles or in gyms or other covered areas nearby to pray for their school, city, state and nation before school that morning.

Baptist churches and associations participated in various ways. And some schools with very low attendance in the past saw large numbers attend this year after starting new First Priority groups this school year.

SYATP is “a great way to publicly acknowledge God,” Davis said. “It’s a great way to let students know you can pray at school, share your faith at school and do Monday through Friday what we talk about on Sunday.”

The student-led event has been going on since 1990.
