Redeemer Community Church in Avondale has announced plans to expand its campus by acquiring a portion of the former Trinity Medical Center site on Montclair Road, the church said in a statement. Prior to it becoming the Trinity Medical Center, it was the Baptist Montclair Medical Center.
The property, located 1.5 miles from Redeemer’s current sanctuary, represents what the church describes as a “unique opportunity” for growth and ministry.
The church confirmed it is under contract for the site, following nearly a year of behind-the-scenes work. While financial details have not been disclosed, church leaders emphasized the property’s size, central location and existing infrastructure as key advantages. “It would require nearly the same amount of funding as [other options] while still limiting our ability to live out our core convictions,” the church said in a statement to AL.com.
Trinity Medical Center closed in 2015, and previous redevelopment plans were abandoned in 2018 and again during the COVID-19 pandemic, AL.com reported.
‘Nothing short of a miracle’
Redeemer’s congregation has grown to nearly 1,900 members since moving into its current building in 2014. “Our sanctuary, classrooms, and gathering spaces are no longer sufficient,” the church said.
A prayer gathering at the new site is planned for Sunday, April 13, as Redeemer invites members to seek God’s guidance for what church leaders call “a project that will take nothing short of a miracle.”
