Richard (Rick) M. Cagle, who served several Alabama Baptist churches as pastor and started Evergreen Ministries, died June 6. He was 59.
Cagle attended Mobile College (now the University of Mobile) and later earned a master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and a doctorate from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
He served as pastor of Cottage Hill Baptist Church, Mobile; First Baptist Church, Demopolis; First Baptist Church, Jackson; and First Baptist Church, Gadsden. He also served as pastor of churches in Mississippi.
Cagle served as assistant president of the University of Mobile from 1995 to 1997 and then started Evergreen Ministries, which has grown into several ministries including Evergreen Christian Academy.
Cagle then planted Crosspoint Church, Mobile, in 2000 and also began the 714 Project, a yearly event where all churches in the Mobile area are invited to gather for a time of prayer and worship.
Cagle is survived by his wife, Marie; five children and 11 grandchildren.
