Pastor of FBC Posey Cross Roads dies at 72
James Thomas “Tommy” Roy, pastor of First Baptist Church, Posey Cross Roads, in Prattville, died June 2 from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was 72.
Roy founded First, Posey Cross Roads, in 2007 and quickly led the young congregation to come under the fellowship of Autauga Baptist Association in 2008.
In an article for The Alabama Baptist at the time, Roy said, “I felt that it was important for us to be a part (of the association). … Churches can accomplish much more together.”
Prior to that, Roy served as pastor of Marbury Baptist Church for 17 years and as pastor of Big Springs Church, Billingsley, for 10 years.
Autauga Association Director of Missions Mel Johnson transitioned to associational life from the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM) in September 2016 and right off the bat, Johnson said, “Bro. Tommy went out of his way to welcome me.”
Describing Roy as “one of the most beloved pastors in the association,” Johnson said Roy was a caring, “soul-winning” pastor who made a significant impact on the association.
“He was truly a Great Commission partner both on the association level and on the SBOM level. He was a tremendous pastor … (who) will be very missed.”
First, Posey Cross Roads, will hold a benefit concert for the Roy family June 24. Spoken For Trio and HeartLine southern gospel groups will be the featured singers and a love offering will be collected for the family.
Roy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol; two children; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. (Hannah Muñoz)
