We Once Were
Entertainment One Music
Alabama-band Rush of Fools has released its third album, “We Once Were,” after a two-year hiatus brought about by business issues with its former label. With its debut album producing two No. 1 singles on the Adult Contemporary (AC) charts, four Dove Award nominations and an ASCAP Song of the Year Award, then its sophomore release producing an AC Top Ten and tons of media buzz, you might expect this third CD to soar. You’d be right. With a stellar group of producers and engineers, and some of the most unprocessed recording I’ve heard in some time, this is music you can get your teeth into.
I’m not sure garage band sound is accurate, but this is music that would make Weezer proud. Drums are uncompressed, guitars are edgy, bass is deliciously distorted and vocals are out front and in your face and without digital artifact. For me, this is how rock is supposed to sound and the Christian themes only add to the depth of the record.
I won’t pick apart the songs, but I’ll tell you there’s not a bad one on the CD.
This is music that should (and probably will) find lots of exposure in both the Christian music world as well as the secular rock world. This is driving, edgy, honest rock with a strong Christian message. Recommended.
