As a teenager, Joycelyn Carrell knew that God was calling her to help Christians express their love for God. While a student at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., she found the place to live out that calling when she applied for the job of director of church and community ministries for Russell Baptist Association. Thirty years later, she is still carrying out God’s call.
“I am called to help the people in our churches put their faith into action,” Carrell said. “I’m always seeking to involve people.”
She is constantly helping those in need, said Wayne Burns, director of missions for the association. “She has helped Russell Baptists to reach out and minister to people from all walks of life. Some of these have found jobs, received Christ as Savior, families have been strengthened and an untold number have received food, clothing and encouragement through the ministry directed by Joycelyn Carrell.”
Carrell, a member of Auburn Heights Baptist Church, Phenix City, will be honored Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Wanda Lee, executive director of national Woman’s Missionary Union, will speak at the service at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, Phenix City. A fellowship will follow.
