Sallie Howard Memorial Chapel, near Mentone, recently celebrated 50 years as a mission of DeKalb Baptist Association. It was built by Milford Howard as a memorial to his first wife and dedicated in June 1937. Music was provided by a volunteer choir.
Chris Murdock, pastor of the chapel, received plaques given by Lonette Berg, executive director emerita of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, and Darrell Haney, associate pastor of Minvale Baptist Church, Fort Payne, representing the association. It marked a special day for Haney who was saved 62 years ago during a service at the chapel. The celebration concluded with the Lord’s Supper and a meal at the outdoor pavilion.
