Bring Your Nothing

Shane & Shane released their 10th project May 14, “Bring Your Nothing.” Recorded over seven days in their newly created Wellsprings Studio in Cedar Hill, Texas, with good friends Jason Hoard (Third Day), Tyler Chester (Fiction Family), Josh Moore (Caedmon’s Call) and Joey Parish (Shane & Shane’s drummer), all 11 songs were tracked with everyone playing together (yes, at the same time), something almost unheard of these days. As Shane Everett said, “We just put it in the red and went for it.”
Shane & Shane performed the post-production work themselves, and they’ve created a record that’s cohesive yet diverse, full of energy, lyrically in your face and bursting with Good News.
God’s grace is the thematic glue binding the project. “You Loved My Heart to Death,” a simple arrangement that tells the story of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, is one of the best. The record’s first radio single, “That’s How You Forgive,” powerfully describes Jesus’ grace toward us in an easy-to-understand message.
The title track may be the most moving recounting of God’s grace on the record. As Shane Barnard says regarding the grace we receive, “You bring what you have, and what you have is nothing.”
