Silverhill First Baptist Church celebrated its 125th anniversary Nov. 10. Special music was provided by the choir, which also held a special celebration Nov. 9. Rick Barnhart, a former pastor, was the guest speaker. Wendy Westerhouse, executive director of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented a plaque to the church, which was accepted by Steve Pumphrey, deacon chair. Pumphrey’s wife, Ann, is the great-granddaughter of the Swedish Johnson family who were among the 12 charter members. Until 1930 the morning worship services were conducted in the Swedish language. The original organizing and early documents dating from 1899 to 1937 were on display in the Swedish language.
