J. Steven Stamps is the new director of missions for Sipsey Baptist Association. Stamps grew up in the association in New Hope Baptist Church, Berry, where he met his future wife, Lora, and where his late father, John Stamps, was pastor.
He was called to ministry when he was 38 years old and was ordained at Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Winfield.
For over 25 years Stamps has served as pastor of Unity Baptist Church, Fayette; Shiloh Baptist Church, Sulligent; Mount Hebron Baptist Church, Northport; Piney Grove Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa; and Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Winfield. He also was a previous interim director of missions for the association.
Stamps is the HVAC commercial manager of Premier Service Company in Tuscaloosa. He and Lora have three children and nine grandchildren.
