Longtime Alabama Baptist pastor Ira Cole Skelton died Feb. 10. He was 78.
During his more than 30-year ministry, Skelton served as pastor of several churches including First Baptist Church, Springville; First Baptist Church, Pell City; and First Baptist Church, Abbeville. He served nearly a decade as director of missions for Tuscaloosa Baptist Association, as well as working as a consultant for the state Training Union Department and serving two other Baptist churches as minister of education.
Skelton graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
He is survived by wife Eloise, four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. (TAB)
