LAHORE, Pakistan — Family members of a slain Pakistani Christian report receiving threats upon their lives if they do not drop charges against the suspect.
Farhan Ul Qamar, 20, was fatally shot Nov. 9, 2023, in the presence of his family at their home in Talwandi Inayat Khan village in Punjab province. The news services Christian Daily International and Morning Star News report that Muhammad Zubair confessed to the slaying but then retracted his statement.
Recently six armed invaders entered the Ul Qamar home and threatened family members at gunpoint. The alleged leader of the invaders was Zubair’s father, the news services say.
Noor Ul Qamar, father of Farhan Ul Qamar, said he filed a police report on the incident, but authorities released the men hours later.
“The intruders threatened us that if we do not stop pursuing the case and reach a settlement with them to free Zubair from prison, they would kill us,” Noor Ul Qamar told the news services.
The November 2023 attack upon the Ul Qamars may have been religiously motivated since Zubair referred to the family as Jews before shooting Farhan Ul Qamar.
Pakistan is No. 7 on Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
