MOGADISHU, Somalia — A Somali woman fled for her life, leaving behind her two young children, because her husband beat her for placing her faith in Jesus Christ.
The Muslim husband beat the 30-year-old woman Dec. 8, seriously injuring her, reported Morning Star News. The woman, called “Fatuma” in the news article, put her faith in Jesus on Oct. 15 during an underground church service in the Mudug region of Somalia.

Fatima fled from her husband after her mother-in-law rescued her from the beating. A Christian leader gave Fatima a place of refuge.
“I miss my children (ages 4 and 6), but I cannot go back to my husband because he will kill me,” Fatuma told Morning Star. “I have forgiven my husband and am praying for God to change his life.”
The U.S. Department of State says Islam is the state religion of Somalia, secured by the country’s constitution, according to Morning Star.
Somalia is No. 2 on Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
