Virgie Hurst is someone you should know because she started her church library in 1945. Currently she serves as media library director and historian, among other positions.
Q: Why have you done this activity?
A: I was always interested in reading and I wanted other people to read and have access to books to help them with their reading enjoyment and teaching.
Q: What does the ministry demand?
A: Just a little time.
Q: What do you get from the ministry?
A: I get enjoyment in having things available for other people to use.
Q: What led you to start the library?
A: I traveled to Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly in North Carolina for a conference and I heard about it there.
The Alabama Baptist State Convention helped us by giving us several books and the church gave us a few dollars to buy books.
We have more than 4,000 accessions there now.
Q: How do other family members support you?
A: My brothers and sisters have always supported me in what I’ve done.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: As long as I’m needed, I’ll be there to serve.
