“Discretion will watch over you, and understanding will guard you.”
Proverbs 2:11 (HCSB)
Devotional Moment
You may be getting ready to make your way back to school or back to your offices after being home for several weeks. Whether you’re a freshman headed out to college for the first time or someone who works outside your home, it may be helpful to stop and look at the world with fresh eyes. Wherever you find yourself, things will be different than they were before. The first semester of school may be tempered by smaller classes and online course options. Your office building may have a third of its normal capacity of workers at any one time as we continue to weather the virus of 2020.
You will face new choices and often you will fend for yourself. Proverbs 2:11 is a good reminder that God has given you some built-in allies. He provided interior armor that can serve you well. Discretion speaks to your choices and the judgments you make as you are presented with new ideas, people and obstacles. Understanding reflects the wisdom of those choices and the opportunity you have to do the right thing.
The message then is to remember who you are and whose you are, seeking God’s direction and counsel for every choice you make. Go forward with confidence that God is with you wherever you may be.
Prayer
Lord, watch over me as I walk out into the world. Help me be wise about the choices I make. Grant me joy in the things I do. Amen.
Action Step
Think back on an unwise choice you made. Reflect on how things may have gone differently if you had taken 10 minutes to ask God for His help.
