KHARTOUM, Sudan — Christianity continues to be under attack in Sudan, with recent incidents that include believers killed or injured in attacks and a ban on a Christmas celebration.
Morning Star News reports these recent incidents in Sudan, which is No. 5 on Open Doors’ 2025 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian:

— A Sudanese Air Force air strike damaged a Baptist church in the Al-Azba region of Khartoum on Dec. 20. Philemon Hassan Kharata, the pastor of the church, said a church member was injured. Several individuals were killed when their homes were also bombed.
— The SAF and the Rapid Support Forces, both Islamist paramilitary groups, have battled each other since 2023 and in the process have regularly targeted Christians. On Jan. 12, the RSF set ablaze a church building in Wad Medani in Al Jazirah state.
— Christians displaced by war were prohibited from holding a Christmas Day service in a park in Wadi Halfa in Northern state where they are taking refuge. First, they were told Christian activities in a Muslim area must have advance written permission. Later, they received verbal permission. Then on Dec. 25, two pastors were told to report to military special forces for interrogation for lack of written approval.
— 14 Christians were injured — some critically — on Dec. 30 as RSF attacked during a prayer service at Sudanese Church of Christ in Al Hasaheisa in Al Jazirah state. Those at the service were praying for the end of conflict between RSF and SAF, a source said.
