Retired Meadow Brook pastor dies at 67

Ron C. Sumners, retired pastor of Meadow Brook Baptist Church, Birmingham, died Dec. 29, 2016. He was 67.

Sumners served as pastor of Meadow Brook Baptist Church for nearly 20 years before retiring in 2012. He also served at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church; Valley Park Baptist Church, Montgomery; First Baptist Church, Landrum, South Carolina; and Trinity Baptist Church, Whiteville, North Carolina. He also served as moderator and hospice chaplain for Shelby Baptist Association and as the Baptist campus minister at Auburn University.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Samford University in Birmingham, a master’s degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and a doctorate from Southwest Bible College and Seminary in Gainesville, Georgia.

Sumners is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen “Prissy,” and two children. (Hannah Muñoz)
