One of the young men charged with burning Rocky Mount Baptist Church near Sylacauga pleaded guilty Sept. 24 to one count each of burglary in the third degree and arson in the second degree, according to The (Talladega) Daily Home.
Preston Dwayne Lindenthaler, 19, will face sentencing Nov. 7. He could face two to 20 years in prison for the arson charge and one year and one day to 10 years for the burglary charge.
Lindenthaler and a co-defendant, Randy Lee Jones, 18, were charged with setting fire to the Coosa River Baptist Association church’s sanctuary and Sunday School annex in October 2006. Both buildings were a total loss.
Jones pleaded guilty in May.
According to Pastor Dennis Elliott, the church is in “excellent financial shape” and hopes to have plans for a new, larger structure ready in late February or early March.
“We are doing fine and our prayers are for these two boys, that they will know our love and concern and eventually share with us a testimony of their faith in Christ,” Elliott said. (TAB)
