TBFA announces new eldercare chaplain

Larry D. Layne has been named the new eldercare chaplain for The Baptist Foundation of Alabama (TBFA) after Tom Randall recently retired from the position.

Layne holds a bachelor’s degree from Samford University in Birmingham and a master of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

Prior to TBFA, Layne served for 27 years as the senior chaplain with Baptist Hospice in Montgomery and for the past two years as chaplain of the Alabama Air National Guard.

Layne said he pursued chaplaincy because he feels it is an “extension of the Church to those in institutions such as hospitals and the military,” and he hopes to continue to serve those in need through his new position.

“I took this position [as eldercare chaplain] because I knew of the meaningful work that Tom Randall was doing in the position and I thought my experience in health care ministry would translate well,” Layne said.

“Also I thought I could help the Foundation understand and serve the needs of our elder clients.”

He is married to Royce, who he describes as a great supporter and ministry partner.
