As Alabama survived the remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy and braced for the possibility of Hurricane Dennis, only one town requested disaster relief aid the week of July 4. According to Keith Hinson at the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM), a chainsaw team of six – one man from Judson Baptist Association and five from Columbia Baptist Association – responded to requests of help at homes in Tumbleton.
O’Neal Robinson, regional disaster relief coordinator for District 5, said there were three houses with trees down, and one barn and a couple of small utility buildings had suffered major damage. However, no injuries or fatalities were reported, according to Judson Director of Missions Bob Pemberton.
Robinson said the teams arrived at the town located in Henry County July 7 and finished the work that day.
Calls to various associations across the state revealed that no Alabama Baptist churches had reported any damage, either to SBOM or to the associational offices contacted.
