For the past five and a half months I have been stationed in Iraq. I am part of a provisional security/military police company providing convoy security across the country. We have logged over 52,000 miles with more than 150 convoys in the past few months. Our job is simple — make sure the convoy makes it from one place to another.
We have run into our share of obstacles and hardships with these convoys, but we have overcome all things that have come at us. The stress of living in an environment like this is unimaginable to those who have not been here. The sounds of helicopters, planes, mortars, rockets, tanks and other military equipment are constant 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The dangers in Iraq are all around us, but we have done everything we can to make this country safer for the Iraqi nationals as well as the men and women from our military.
This is all made possible because of the support we receive from back home. The prayers and encouraging words mean so much to me as well as to the other Marines here.
It is always nice to receive a letter from someone telling me that they are thinking about me and praying for me. It is also motivating to hear the stories about those who show their support to my fiancée and parents when they find out I am here. So thank you for the support you have shown my family and me. I will be home soon and I will never forget what you all have done for me.
