When it comes to missions, Alabama Baptists’ primary resource for information is their state Baptist newspaper, said Bob Terry, editor of The Alabama Baptist.
“Whether it be here in our own state, in the territory we call home missions or international missions, The Alabama Baptist is a valuable source of information,” Terry told messengers to the state convention annual meeting in Mobile Nov. 14.
The state Baptist paper also helps churches disciple young families by informing them about what Baptists believe, how Baptists view Scripture and how Baptists work together, he said.
“It offers practical insights and suggestions and provides regular Bible studies to help with the Christian discipleship of our readers,” Terry said.
The Alabama Baptist is the only state Baptist paper in the nation that devotes such a large percentage of its available space to local and state news. To strengthen this priority, it partners with about 150 churches and associations to produce local editions designed specifically for their members.
Each issue is “a resource for Christian living” that costs less than the price of a postcard — a cost kept low through CP funding despite the impact of rising postage costs, he said. “It’s a wise and wonderful investment for any church that’s interested in the discipleship of its people and the Baptist identity of its young couples.” (TAB)
