William G. Lord. Bloomington, IN: Crossbooks, 2012. 248 pp. (Paperback).
At first glance this book appeared to be another diatribe against liberality and the Democratic Party. Even for those of us who are concerned about the direction of our country, we sometimes want to put our hands over our ears and shout, “Enough! No more!” Do I really want to read another one?
As it turns out, “The Battle for America,” while certainly expressing opposition to the growing trend toward socialism in this country, is an interesting, scholarly work that presents a look at the history of socialism and weaves the narrative into the landscape of today’s America, revealing “the impact of Marxist thought on the Christian Community.”
Wait — did I read that right? The Christian community? William Lord makes a strong case to support his contention that Christians have “replaced the first commandment — love of God — with the second commandment — love of neighbor.” In so doing, Lord insists, we have set our own evaluations and conclusions above those of a sovereign God and twisted the truth into a lie.
Lord is a former Marine who earned a seminary degree after his retirement from the aircraft industry.
