Richard E. Simmons III. Mobile: Evergreen Press, 2011. 160 pp. (Hardback).
In these economic times, men who base their self-worth on material success are reeling. According to author Richard Simmons, the two basic needs men have are security and significance. “What has happened is that this current economic crisis — particularly the severity of it — has converged in such a way that the ability to meet both of these psychological needs has been threatened.”
The result? Simmons maintains that it is paralyzing fear.
This book takes the reader from the paralyzing fear to freedom — freedom to choose, freedom in courage and freedom in truth — then on to a life of contentment through trusting and living in harmony with God’s plan.
Although a bit disjointed in places, the book is well written, quoting freely from the Bible as well as other authors, to lead the reader into the hope that is found in Christ. Simmons founded and is active in the Center for Executive Leadership in Birmingham.
