LAHORE, Pakistan — Two Christians in Pakistan were slain in separate incidents that have been attributed to Muslim extremism and prejudice.
On Jan. 11, 55-year-old Allah Ditta was killed after telling some Muslims to quit stealing guava from his crop in Renala village in Punjab province, Morning Star News reported. Ditta died instantly from a gunshot wound to the chest.
One assailant was arrested; the other two were still at large as of Feb. 8.
On Feb. 6 a landlord and five Muslims beat Emmanuel Masih to death as he irrigated fields for the landlord. Masih, a 48-year-old father of six, was slain after being accused of stealing oranges from the orchard. The murder occurred in Chak Number 139/10R village in Punjab province.
Police arrested the landlord and two of the attackers.
Christians in Pakistan face many forms of persecution, such as deadly attacks and false accusations of blasphemy, as well as forced conversion and marriage of underage girls, Morning Star reported.
Pakistan is No. 7 on Open Doors’ 2023 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
