The University of Mobile (UM) announced the winners of the first juried art exhibition.
The exhibition included more than 50 pieces of art in a variety of media from artists across the Southeast.
Larry Simpson, of Mobile, took first place for “One Way of Viewing,” a work done in pencil.
Frank Murphy Jr., of Rome, Ga., took second place for his oil on canvas piece, titled “South Alabama Farmer,” and Teri Zaccaro, of Opelika, was honored with third place for “Random Thoughts,” a mixed media sculpture.
The winner of the Southern Humor Award was Luz Maria Lopez, of Covington, La., for the mixed media piece “Justice.”
Three artists received an honorable mention: Angelique Sturm, of Coral Springs, Fla., for “Fold,” done in conti crayon; Bertice McPherson, of Mobile, for “Moon and Cloud,” done in barrel-fired clay; and Dale Lewis, of Oneonta, for “Artifishial,” done in wood.
The art from the exhibition was on display in Thomas T. Martin Hall on the UM campus in May.
