Union Baptist Church holds month-long 150th celebration

Union Baptist Church, Grand Bay, celebrated its 150th anniversary Oct. 21, but the celebration began Oct. 7 with an old-fashioned day when people got to dress in clothes from their favorite decade.

On Oct. 14 the church held a missions day featuring guest speakers Pat Ingram from the Alabama Woman’s Missionary Union, Jennifer Ingram from the International Mission Board and Dana Watson from the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes & Family Ministries.

Former pastor Jimmy Jackson was the guest speaker for the Oct. 21 service, and the church choir shared special music.

Dalton Campbell from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission and Thomas Wright, executive director of missions for Mobile Association, presented the church with certificates.

The history of the church was written by Timothy Fields and presented by Mary Beth Fields.

The church featured a memory room with photos of events throughout the church’s history. Copies of a recent church family photo and gift bags also were handed out.

“It was a wonderful day seeing many former members,” Mary Beth Fields said. David Walley is pastor. (TAB)
